We are building a
of BIPOC animal rights advocates.
This is APEX Advocacy.
APEX Advocacy aims to increase the number of BIPOC individuals who participate in animal activism by advocating for collective liberation through animal rights, particularly in marginalized areas and communities that are disproportionately affected by the animal industrial complex.
Our Initiatives
Sometimes BIPOC folks need spaces to reflect, connect, and heal.
Knowing that there is a community of others who look like us or have similar experiences in the animal protection movement can build a sense of belonging and resilience.
Since its inception, our community has functioned to build greater equity in the animal protection movement by providing community, resources, and professional development to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color).
Written from the perspective of collective liberation and rooted in the knowledge that animal exploitation in the modern world is the direct and intended result of the co-mingling forces of capitalism and white supremacy, APEX has developed a concise activism starter guide for BIPOC activists detailing strategies and resources readers can use when engaged in animal advocacy. It is our hope that this guide will provide a meaningful counter to the history of the U.S. animal rights movement’s centering of white bodies and identities while failing to develop organizing strategies that address heightened police scrutiny and violence directed at Black and Brown bodies.
P.A.A.W. is an immersive, uplifting, and educational boot camp in which BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) activists who are not yet vegan but who express interest in the vegan lifestyle and who are curious about the intersections between the oppression of animals and humans can gain experience in various forms of animal advocacy. Six young adults with a passion for social justice will be invited to Atlanta, GA (all expenses covered) for four days of intersectional animal activism consisting of grassroots actions, street activism, workshops, and more – all led by a team of four experienced advisors.
